Why Te Puke Sports?

Te Puke Sports is a rugby club that offers rugby players an environment that allows them to develop and fulfil their potential, both on and off the field.

The Te Puke Sports and Recreation Club is built on a proud history and traditions that have set very high standard.  This has enabled a large number of players to progress to higher honours with Bay of Plenty and New Zealand representative teams.

Te Puke Sports recognises that the modern rugby player has rugby as a career option, and is also , as it always has been, a wonderful way of touring the world.  Te Puke Sports assists players and administrators in every way possible to make this happen.

Over the years a large number of players have joined Te Puke Sports, and the fact that very few leave our club, to play for other clubs in the region, is perhaps our best advertisement.

Te Puke Sports History

Te Puke Sports is the result of a number of amalgamations, the most recent being in 1964 when Te Puke Pirates joined forced with United Old Boys to form United Pirates.

In 1979 the current property was purchased and development began.

In 1992 the name was changed from United Pirates to Te Puke Sports and Recreation Club in order to relate to our district.

Training and Match facilities

Te Puke Sports has two full size rugby fields that are floodlit to first class rugby standard.  Te Puke Sports also has a full size gymnasium that is widely regarded as the best indoor training facility in the Bay of Plenty.

Apart from being used for fitness training and numerous ball sports, the club has introduced boxing training in the gym as part of pre season fitness.

Off the field

Te Puke Sports has a number of contacts regarding employment, and also a number of quality people available to offer advice and support in the areas of rugby mentoring, player contract negotiations, offshore contracts, and numerous other areas where a player may require assistance.

Te Puke Sports also has a Woman's volleyball team that have been New Zealand Club Champions nine times.

Netball is also catered for, and of course junior rugby too, with over 200 age group players on the books!

Commitment to Player Development

Te Puke Sports has a rugby committee whose sole purpose is to create an environment and develop an infrastructure that identifies, and assists the needs of our players and administrators, and encourage them to achieve to their maximum potential.
